The National Institute of Mental Health has information about various mental health disabilities, medications and other related information and issues in the United States:

Anxiety and Depressive disorders are the most common of all mental illnesses. Anxiety disorders alone affect more than 19 million American's each year. Both anxiety and depressive illnesses are severe, chronic and extremely impairing to the individuals who are affected by them. Screening for Mental Health, Inc. (formerly the National Mental Illness Screening Project) is a nonprofit organization developed to coordinate nationwide mental health and addiction screening programs and to ensure cooperation, professionalism, and accountability in behavioral health screening.  Maine Center offers free screenings throughout the year.

Alcoholics Anonymous - Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. 

Al-Anon/Alateen - Al-Anon (which includes Alateen for younger members) has been offering help to families and friends of alcoholics. It is estimated that each alcoholic affects the lives of at least four other people... alcoholism is truly a family disease. No matter what relationship you have with an alcoholic, whether they are still drinking or not, all who have been affected by someone else’s drinking may find solutions that lead to serenity through the Al-Anon and Alateen fellowship.

National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare - The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare is a not-for-profit  association representing 1,300 organizations providing treatment and rehabilitation to help people recover from mental illnesses and addiction disorders.

iarf - IARF is the trade association for community rehabilitation agencies in Illinois. Our members serve people with physical, mental, behavioral, developmental, and other disabilities.

CARF...the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabililitation Facilities - CARF International is an independent, nonprofit accreditor of human service providers in the areas of aging services, behavioral health, child and youth services, DMEPOS, employment and community services, medical rehabilitation, and opioid treatment programs.

The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Mental Health (DMH) - The Division offers a continuum of services from intensive in-patient hospitalization to outpatient care, backed by supportive housing and employment programs throughout Illinois. Its forensic services are designed for the care and treatment of people referred through the court system. Specialized programs for children and adolescents are also provided. Services are recovery oriented, community focused, and attuned to the culture of the persons receiving care.

The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) - is responsible for coordinating the efforts of all state programs dealing with problems created by substance abuse.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services- (SAMHSA) - SAMHSA's mission is to build resilience and facilitate recovery for people with or at risk for substance abuse and mental illness.

Maine Township - serves residents of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Glenview, Morton Grove, and Rosemont. Their goal is to improve the quality of life for everyone in the township by offering services and events with the needs of Township residents in mind.  The General Assistance department serves the needs of financially distressed residents by providing assistance in the form of food, personal essentials, rent, transportation, utilities, and clothing..   The Township food pantry is open Tuesday and Friday from 1-4:30 PM.  The Emergency Management Agency will provide shelter and evacuation information, damage assessment, and recovery informationIn the event of a community emergency or disaster.

Naomi Cohen Foundation - In Naomi’s memory, the Foundation was established. With the proceeds of Naomi’s estate and contributions from family and friends, the Foundation works to prevent others from suffering as she did. Our goal is to overcome the stigma of mental illness. Foundation income is used to promote educational programs and to support organizations engaged in mental illness research, education, self-help, anti-discrimination and advocacy.  The Foundation annually plans, promotes and underwrites a Community Mental Health Conference. The Conference — attended by more than 300 professionals, consumers, family members and concerned public — addresses critical mental health issues such as bipolar disorder and depression..  Maine Center is a proud annual sponsor of the foundation's conference.

The Homeless Action Committee of Metropolitan Chicago - The mission of the Homeless Action Committee of Chicago is to integrate existing services and supports, and to strategically stimulate the creation of resources in the Chicago metro area for the purpose of strengthening the network of care for people who are homeless and have a serious mental illness.  Maine Center is a member organization of HAC.
